In these trying times, most employers are being mandated by the government to transition their employees to a work from home scenario for safety reasons.
Here are 5 awesome tips on how you can stay productive with your daily work tasks while working from home.
TIP #1 CREATE A DEDICATED WORKSPACE
Whether it’s a spare bedroom, a dining table or a makeshift space, it is important to make a dedicated workspace. Make sure it’s a clean, quiet, and organised space for you to work for the rest of the day without getting any external distractions. A bonus tip – your dedicated workspace should give you the same vibe as you get in your workspace inside the office.
TIP #2 PRE-PLAN EACH DAY
Your deadlines at work can be quite overwhelming. Knowing that you will be working from home with limited supervision, it can be hard for you to stay on track. One helpful way to stay-on-track is to create a ‘to-do’ list based on your WIP document at the start of your shift. This will help you prioritize tasks as well as stay on track throughout the day
TIP #3 MAINTAIN REGULAR WORK HOURS
Set your schedule and stick to it. It can be quite tempting to work extra hours after your shift if you have your work computer at home. But, it is important to maintain a healthy work/life balance – even if you are stuck at home. A good work/life balance is more important than ever in these challenging times, so don’t let being at home get in the way of your leisure time.
TIP #4 SET GROUND RULES WITH PEOPLE IN YOUR WORKSPACE
Set ground rules with other people in your home or who share your workspace. If you have family members at home while you’re working, there needs to be clear rules about what they can and cannot do during your shift. For example, minutes before your meeting you can notify the people inside your house to stay quiet or stay away from your designated workspace so that your meeting will not be disrupted by unnecessary noise.
TIP #5 KEEP COMMUNICATING
Be transparent about your work progress, don’t hesitate to ask your manager for weekly catch-ups about your tasks. Lastly, if you are struggling from work and need to take a day off, don’t hesitate to speak to your manager. Your mental health and happiness is also key to being productive and producing amazing outcomes.
